I don´t mind losing, but ...

Monday, Monday, I wish it was Sunday.

The weekend contained of studies, parties and boardgames. Me and my grandmother play Halma as often as we can. It took me years to beat her even ones, and yesterday we ended up 1-1, then we decided to watch some Frasier. :)

Oh well, it can´t all be fun and games. There´s a full week ahead and I´m just trying to eat, sleep and move to keep the energy up. (I didn´t even watch the Oscars last night!)

Hope your week has begun nicely!

Cheers!

Looking Good

Hehe, I don´t need a scale to know I´m loosing a bit of weight, my glasses have started to glide off! Not so much when I´m calm, sitting down, but when I´m jumping around (usually in exercise class. I don´t jump around much at the office ...)

Anywho, apparently my glasses aren´t shrinking at the same rate as the rest of me. Let´s hope it doesn´t go too far. New glasses are expensive! (And I get that "strict teacher" look when they glide down to the tip of my nose.) :)

Too much Plaid?

When it´s cold outside and cold inside, there are no "fashion rules". Every piece of pyjama comes out of hiding and there´s no end to the layers of ill fitting non matching items.

Tonight´s outfit is oh so cosy, but I would never open the front door in it. Not even (or especially not) to Prince Charming coming to find his long lost soulmate.

If you want to visit me tonight, plaid is a must.

I´m not her biggest fan but ...

Another good "pick me up" song when things are feeling a bit overwhelming. (Don´t bother if you hate power ballads ...)

You haven´t seen the last of me - Cher

Apparently it won a Golden Globe this year for best original song for the movie Burlesque.

Knock, knock ...

Today my course went on a field trip to Sanoma Magazines and we took the bus there. Now, transportation in Helsinki becomes tricky when it gets around -20C. Buses, trams, trains, they all become a bit fragile.

Getting on the bus we noticed that the driver had problems with the front doors, but he decided to do the tour anyway. At a red light, he suddenly got up, motor still running, and steped out of the bus to check something. A minute later we hear a knock on the winodw. The driver had locked himself out of the bus!

Luckily we were all honest people. Someone less honest could have sat down in the driver´s seat and "kidnapped" all of us. Instead we found the right button and let the driver back in (in time for the green light). The rest of the ride was rather uneventful.

Have a great weekend!

Saturday

If the sun is shining a winter day, it is your obligation as a Finn to go outside. So, I took a Saturday walk around the Töölönlahti Bay together with half of Helsinki.
The good thing with exercising in -10 degrees is that you feel motivated to keep moving, if you stop, you freeze to death. (Okay, slight exaggeration ...)

Many people were walking over the bay but after seeing this little pond the ice didn´t seem too safe so I stuck to the path.

There are some super cute houses around the bay. Some of them are let out to working writers and artists. Only draw back is the train yard just behind them.

Back home I decided to bake some rolls, eventhough I know my oven is anything but reliable. To my huge surprise it actually worked this time! They came out neither under or over cooked and tasted great! Maybe the oven is finally warming up to me ... (höhö).

Hope you´ve had a great Saturday!

Time

Today she´s been gone for six months. It is hard to believe. It all feels so remote and near at the same time. Sometimes it´s almost like she never existed, but she was very real and I miss her.

I don´t know who first said that time heals all wounds. I don´t know if the saying is right. All I know is that time passes, whether we like it or not.

Cheers

Are you sure about that?

Something an instructor should not say to 60 people after 55 minutes of sweaty exercise:

"Come on gang, let´s take our shoes off for the Salsa!"

Yuk.

My work out buddy, Buddha

"To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear"

I borrowed this quote from Canadian blogger Sandra´s Studio, who in turn borrowed it from Buddha.

Buddha has a point. For a month I´ve been working out almost daily and I can´t remember when I´ve had this much energy, despite a grueling work schedule. Without it, I would most likely suffer from minor panic attacks on a regular basis.

So, let´s take care of our bodies! (And that thesis might become reality one day ...)

Recycling

Today´s loot was a bit bigger than a cake tray. Luckily my brother helped me drive it home from the our grandparents´ house. It would have been a bit tricky to take on the subway ...

I wouldn´t normally rob my grandparents´ of their furniture, but they are planning to move so the excess furniture has to go! Now I have a new hiding place for all my teas! Love it.

Have a great week!

Friday Dinner

After a long day at uni/work I decided to treat myself to some store bought, take away sushi. I usually want my sushi fresh, not that cucumber or pickled radishes can go bad, but it tastes better. These pieces however were rather good. And gesus, that wasabi can get up your nostrils.

I have work tomorrow morning, so no party for me, but have a great Friday evening!

(Sebastian: It´s still just coke ...)

Midweek Concert

Yesterday´s concert was fun! It was organized by the Swedish speaking radio channel X3M and therefore almost everyone in the audience was acquaintances on one level or another.

The saying that all Swedish speaking Finns know each other is a bit of an exaggeration, but also kind of true. It might be a good idea to compare family trees before hooking up ...

My outfit to the left. Salem Al Fakir, the reason everyone was there, below.

I only took one pic during the evening but if you want to see a "paparazzi" photo of me and my friends, visit this website and click forward to photo number 18.

Have a nice evening!

Cheers

Move those hips!

I have been bad mouthing it for ages. What good can come from something promoted on TV Shop?

I was wrong! This morning I tried my first ever Zumba class and I loved it! It´s a bit like my Cubanueva class, but on speed. And I recognized many of the movements from my days of Afro dancing so it wasn´t even too hard to follow. (Just make sure you see the instructor ...)

Today´s instructor was a substitute, but I hope next week´s will be just as good.

Yes, I´m hooked!

Small Victory

Today I managed a whole step class without wanting to die or taking a "bathroom break". I feel victorious! Maybe my body is finally responding ...

Not so happy about forgetting choir practise though. Sorry!

Soon I´m off to a concert with my two Hannas, Hanna and Hanna. :) Should be fun as long as I can stay awake! :)

Cheers!
